Graffiti on train at Salinas Army Air Base (SAAB), 1943. The graffiti reads "WAACs and WAVES are Welcome to the US Air Corps". WAACs, or the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps, allowed women to join the Army during the US' involvement in World War II. WAVEs was similar to WAAC and was a womens-only branch of the US Navy. |
