This scrapbook documents the wartime experience of Joseph Earl Turner, a jazz musician and golf instructor, who enlisted from Emporia, Kansas, in the US Army on 23 December 1940. Beginning as a private, Turner rose quickly in rank before separating from service on 7 December 1945 as a Technical Sergeant. He served in the 161st and the 195th Field Artillery bands and was stationed at bases in Kansas and California, including at San Luis Obispo and Fort Ord. |
