Year Range to |
1945 |
Description |
This page of the Turner scrapbook documents Turner's time at Camp San Luis Obispo and features several photos of soldiers at the summit of Mt. Hollister. The other soldiers are likely also in the 195th Field Artillery Band, as some of their names are listed elsewhere. This scrapbook documents the wartime experience of Joseph Earl Turner, a jazz musician and golf instructor, who enlisted from Emporia, Kansas, in the US Army on 23 December 1940. Beginning as a private, Turner rose quickly in rank before separating from service on 7 December 1945 as a Technical Sergeant. He served in the 161st and the 195th Field Artillery bands and was stationed at bases in Kansas and California, including at San Luis Obispo and Fort Ord. |
