Description |
Featured in the Turner scrapbook, this page includes several photos of soldiers playing instruments together. It is possible these soldiers were members of the 161st or 195th Field Artillery band. No location or description is given, but they are likely playing at a soldiers club or other venue. This scrapbook documents the wartime experience of Joseph Earl Turner, a jazz musician and golf instructor, who enlisted from Emporia, Kansas, in the US Army on 23 December 1940. Beginning as a private, Turner rose quickly in rank before separating from service on 7 December 1945 as a Technical Sergeant. He served in the 161st and the 195th Field Artillery bands and was stationed at bases in Kansas and California, including at San Luis Obispo and Fort Ord. |
