Soldiers standing with a 75mm gun on the parade grounds at Fort Ord, 1940s. Underneath the photo, there is a caption that reads "75 MM, Fort Ord, Calif." Letter on the back from Lieutenant John R. Ellison, an officer at Fort Ord's Officer School, to his mother Mrs. W.G. Ellison, who is from Waynesboro, Virginia. The letter was sent on December 24, 1943. It reads "Dearest Mother, Received your letter today. Also one from Aunt Ester. More glad to hear from you. Some hope "T" and "W" got home for Xmas. I'll be there next Xmas, you can't count on that. We fixed our combines all morning and had a night problem tonight. Received your cards and sent them out. This picture shows a close up of a 75m cannon in gun position with gun crew/field artillery. Write soon. All my love. John R." |
