This image documents the service of Donald Huntington, Jr., a Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC) student, who served aboard several U.S. Navy vessels while temporarily assigned to the Persian Gulf from September 30, 1980 through mid-December 1980 during the Iranian Revolution when several US Embassy employees were held hostage. Huntington graduated from DLIFLC as a Persian-Farsi crypto linguist and his skills were needed during the crisis. He was rotated to several Navy vessels in seaborne exchanges using a cable chair conveyance between ships that the photo set includes. |
