This page of the Turner scrapbook features the 195th Field Artillery Band in parade formation at Fort Ord. A note indicates that Joseph E. Turner is in the left row, second from the top and Harry W. Austin is in the left row, 6th from the top. This scrapbook documents the wartime experience of Joseph Earl Turner, a jazz musician and golf instructor, who enlisted from Emporia, Kansas, in the US Army on 23 December 1940. Beginning as a private, Turner rose quickly in rank before separating from service on 7 December 1945 as a Technical Sergeant. He served in the 161st and the 195th Field Artillery bands and was stationed at bases in Kansas and California, including at San Luis Obispo and Fort Ord. |
