This box of the Yutaka Munakata Papers includes records collected from the Training Development department from 1963 to 1979. This includes memos, DF (Disposition Forms) letters, pamphlets, manuals, regulations and course materials relating to training development. The booklet on the framework for the development and implementation of basic language courses outlines the objectives as language ability, listening comprehension, speaking, reading, writing, and area study. The 1968 Intermediate Language Course Manual sets forth the operational framework for the development and implementation of the Intermediate Language Course. The Course was first contemplated and tested in Spring of 1965. Students are assumed to be graduates of a Basic or Aural Comprehension Course and to have had a year of active exposure to the target language in the field prior to entrance. DLI Pamphlet 350-4 provides policy guidelines for DLI schools in the full-time foreign language training of US personnel. Chapters and sections covered include the Defense Language Program, establishment and mission of DLI, language training requirements, methodology of the Defense Language Program, principles and methods of teaching and learning, outline of teaching procedures, organization and courses, evaluation, personnel and research and development. DLI Regulation 70-2 on research and development of the control and coordination of research, development, test, evaluation of work units sets forth the scope, definitions, policy, objectives, responsibilities, reporting and coordination procedures for language training research, development, test and evaluation activities in and for the DLI. A 1977 report on the application of instructional technology principles to Defense Language Program course materials provides guidance to faculty personnel in adjusting existing DLIFLC instructional materials to the principles of self-pacing. Sections encompass techniques on how to apply instructional technology in using existing instructional materials. The date range of these documents is 1963 to 1977. |
