This box of the Verett Preservation Collection contains materials regarding the Presidio of Monterey, specifically related to construction, the Master Plan, the Environmental Impact Statement, and the Intensive Cultural Resources Survey Report. Records related to construction on the Presidio include the DLI construction program, which outlines a listing of major construction from 1983 to 1986. Information consists of designer, contractor, costs, timeline, site, design, exterior, interior, parking, features, and function. The 1979 draft Environmental Impact Statement addresses issues related to the environmental setting, land use relationships, probable impact of installation on the environment and alternatives to proposed actions. Also noted are the relationships between short-term uses and long-term productivity. Appendix materials include climate and air quality, geology and soils, water quality, flora, fauna, and land use. The Master Plan describes the proposed new facilities which will be needed to accommodate expansion and consolidation of the DLIFLC programs at the POM. The Master Plan includes replacement of temporary and semi-permanent structures, construction of new classrooms, housing units, and recreational community, and administrative facilities, and upgrading of existing utilities necessary to accommodate a 77% increase in the DLIFLC student population by 1988. A report titled "Intensive Cultural Survey Report of the Presidio of Monterey fulfills the need for an intensive survey and general overview of the location as well as mapping and evaluation of known sites on the Presidio. The purpose of the work was further to survey and inventory all 360 acres of the Presidio, to prepare an overview report and literature review and to evaluate all located resources for the National Register of Historic Places nomination. Description of archaeological sites, ethnography, history the resource management plan, maps, and illustrative photos are all included. The date range of these records is1978-1998. |
