This box of the1987 Command History Collection contains the Area Studies Proposal to expand and restructure the Area Studies administration in order to improve the teaching of languages and cultures. Enclosed is Cowger's letter on Poch's behalf against the proposal to polygraph all immigrant language instructor applicants. Letters of critique regarding the efficacy of the language programs, specifically Spanish and Russian, are included. The Inspector General's command inspections of the language schools and quarterly bulletins are found in this box. Also included are staff and faculty job performance standards, job descriptions, and union committee files. The Provost's Staff Meeting Minutes contain information about students and faculty for example new hires, student loans, field trips abroad, and the Academic Master Plan. This part of the collection contains The Presidio San Francisco Closure Milestones and Troop Command Restructure; a letter of agreement between Canadian Forces National Defense Headquarters/Director of Language Training and the DLI in various areas of language training and testing; and several resumes of prospective language teachers.. A newspaper article discloses Col. Todd Poch's early resignation from the DLI due to irregularities that were discovered in his personnel file and were later found to be unsubstantiated. The DLIFLC FY 90-94 Installation Program includes program issues such as team teaching; the new personnel system; the nonresident training program; evaluation, standardization, and research; DLPT development; and a summary of funding requirements. The date range for these documents is 1987-1989. |
