In 1968 the Army Pictorial Center, Long Island City, NY, approved a DLI "Big Picture" series. The first film, "Language Power for Peace," began filming at DLIWC (Defense Language Institute West Coast) in March 1969. The film was expected to portray the normal operation of DLI, including history, learning techniques, instructor background, and student activities. The film was to run 28 1/2 minutes, and was scheduled for television release. The second film of the "Big Picture" series was to be used for student orientation. The script was written by a contract writer through the Naval Photographic Center (NPC). This film was designed to give students a preview of what language learning would be like, expected problem areas with soultions, and preparpation for the tasks the student would face. In 1975 and 1980, the issue of updating the film "Language Power for Peace" was discussed. |
