This box of the1987 Command History Collection contains the DFLP Action Officer Meeting highlights, Lieutenant Col. Kozumplik's Draft of The Defense Language Program in 1987, the Federal Year 1987 to 1997 Long Range Plan, and Drafts of Chapter One of the 1987 Command History.

It also includes The Annual Historical Summary of DLI San Francisco providing background information, the incorporation of the Russian language, curriculum changes such as team teaching and the use of tutors for failing students, and the budget.

To attain the objectives in the DLI Master Plan, "Strategy for Excellence", Col. DePhillipis instituted an annual historical summary showing every language school and staffs' updates in achieving the proposed objectives.

In a briefing for Col. Lehowitz the "Gateway" Program is discussed. It is a program to provide commanders with minimal, socially-oriented language skills for the host country housing their command. Such programs exited in Germany and Korea and were being developed for Spain.

"DLI 2000" is a concept paper by Col. Bullard that anticipates new trends; it identifies innovative methods for developing the linguist; it suggests approaches to training with limited resources; and it discusses technological possibilities that could be reality by the year 2000.

The date range for these documents is 1984-1990.
