This box of the1987 Command History Collection consists of the Monthly Activity Reports for each language school, the San Francisco Branch, and the DLI Washington Liaison Office. It includes updates on facilities modernization, the Technology Coordinating Council, Civilian Personnel, Resource Management, recent publications by DLI faculty and staff, and lists of distinguished visitors. Highlights of the DLIFLC Monthly Activities Report consists of the appointment and later resignation of Col. Todd Robert Poch, the reopening of the Presidio Museum, the mid-November closure of the San Francisco Branch, and the language school reorganization. Gen. Maxwell R. Thurman, US Army TRADOC commanding general, toured the DLIFLC and signed an installation contract along with Col. Todd Robert Poch, the commandant. The installation contract is an agreement between the TRADOC commander and the DLIFLC commandant that provides the funding and manpower needed for the language training programs. Also TRADOC command historian, Dr. Henry O. "H.O" Malone, visited DLI and gave a talk in the School of Germanic Languages on the Adam von Trott zu Solz biography he published in 1987. Von Trott zu Solz was a leader in the German Resistance against Adolph Hitler. Newspaper articles pertaining to an officer facing homosexual allegations and the federal appeals court ruling to end the Army's ban on homosexuals are also included in this collection. The date range for these documents is 1987-1991. |
