This box of the Fort Ord Historical Records Collection includes historical report supplements and general orders from 1970 to 1971. Also enclosed is the 1970 Organizations and Functions Manual.
The 1970 annual historical supplement includes information regarding the installation mission, special actions, construction, support mission, community events, unit actions, and lists staff and command. The report notes that construction of the new hospital is approximately 82% completed with an anticipated completion date of September 1971. On March 15, 1970, Camp Roberts was placed in a complete caretaker status and all troops were withdrawn.
General Orders include redesignation, awards, duty assignments, amendments to general orders, assumption of command, assignment of units, and unit organizations.
The 1971 annual historical supplement consists of the report for Fort Ord, as well as Camp Roberts, Hunter Liggett Military Reservation, and the Presidio of Monterey. The report notes that starting in January of 1971 and continuing throughout the year, Fort Ord was the primary training center conducting training under the Experimental Volunteer Army Training Program (VOLAR). On December 10, 1971 the Silas B. Hays Army Hospital was dedicated. A 326 man enlisted barracks at Hunter Liggett was started in April of 1971 and is scheduled for completion in April of 1972. A memo regarding the disposition of property at Camp Roberts outlines the intended actions and includes transfer documents, lists of equipment to be shipped to Fort Ord, and other equipment.
Photos included as part of the 1971 historical supplement contain subjects such as the Main Theater, Chamberlin Library, and stages of construction of the Silas B. Hayes Hospital. Additional photos consist of subjects related to general training at Fort Ord.
